David Ellwand gained a BTEC in photography from Kitson College, Leeds and worked variously as a photo archivist at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, as a photographic technician at Dewsbury college of Art and later as a photographic lecturer. In 1991 he set up his own photographic studio in Yorkshire, working mainly in commercial photography for advertising agencies in Manchester. THE BIG BOOK OF BEAUTIFUL BABIES was his first book for children. David now lives in a 17th century cottage in the Surrey countryside with his wife, Ruth, and daughter, Lydia. He works in a converted barn and collects cookery books and early photographic curiosities.
